APPLy TO BE A MENTOR AND JOIN US ON OUR NEXT TRIP.
Applying to be a mentor on one of our trips not only means having a life changing impact on a group of former foster youth, experiencing cultural immersion and adventure travel...it also means a portion of your trip fee goes towards the trip costs of at least 1 student! It takes 5 minutes to apply and a non-refundable $20 application fee and donation. Shortly after applying, you’ll be contacted to schedule a video call interview.
“How much do I have to raise/pay to go on one of these trips?”
Depending on the location, it will cost around $1300 to $1500 (not including your flight) for all expenses to spend 1 week in Central America. This includes lodging, all meals, volunteer project costs, transportation to and from the local airport and some activities. A portion of your cost will also go to supporting one of our former foster youth candidates.
“What qualifies me to be a mentor?”
To join us as a mentor on one of our trips, you need to have volunteer experience with at-risk youth or have personal experience with the foster care system. You must provide the names and numbers of at least 2 character references and show at least one skill you’re willing to share or teach to the group on or before the trip.
Current trips available to apply for:
NICARAGUA 7 DAYS 6 NIGHTS
Magnific Rock Popoyo, Nicaragua - July 14-21, 2017
On this trip, you will be joining 4-6 former foster youth and 2-4 other mentors to volunteer with the local community of Magnific Rock Popoyo which lies directly along the pacific coast of Nicaragua near a small fishing village. Although the US mostly knows this location as being a popular surf getaway, the locals are a small and humble group of people who lack many basic health and educational resources. We will be working with a local non-profit to support and work with the community by leading a health initiative and teaching english classes to some of the kids in the town. Lodging and meals will all happen at the Mag Rock Hotel which lies cliffside and has simple room accommodations.
